IKEA’s fashionable furnishings are great for turning a house into a home, but now the store is offering something even better: dogs.
In an effort to partner with local adoption shelters, some IKEA stores are placing life-sized cardboard cutouts of adoptable dogs alongside furniture displays. While customers are sofa shopping, they can also learn more about the animals. Each cutout has a tag with a QR code for shoppers to scan, so that they can get details about each available dog.
The concept started in a Singapore store that partnered with two local shelters, under a project called Home for Hope.
An IKEA store in Tempe, Arizona, is now doing the same. Working with the Arizona Humane Society, the retailer placed six cutouts in the showroom — all the dogs were adopted almost immediately. They plan to add more later this month.
It looks like this idea has been one doggone success!
